Thomasine Hinton, the founder of KCRC, has faced her fair share of life's challenges. "Community has always been at the heart of my existence," she reflects. "As a single mother of three young children, juggling a full-time job, I found myself overwhelmed by mounting bills, trapped in a seemingly endless cycle." Balancing work to meet financial obligations and ensuring her children's well-being became her daily struggle, leaving
her feeling embarrassed by society's stigma towards those reliant on public assistance. She notes the unjust stereotypes attached to welfare recipients, ranging from laziness to substance abuse, none of which resonated with her or the individuals she knew in similar circumstances. Recognizing that public assistance programs didn't create wealth but rather provided essential support during times of need, she came to view her struggles not as weaknesses but as opportunities for growth. Her experiences fueled her desire to establish a resource center where individuals facing similar hardships could access support without judgment or delay. Hence, the birth of Kingdom Community Resource Center, a testament to her belief in helping others with dignity and compassion.
